At their annual recognition ceremony, Dutchess Community College recognized 23 members of its full-time faculty and administrative staff for their dedication to the school.

The ceremony is held each year, and honors those who reach 5-year benchmarks in their teaching careers at DCC, starting at their 10th year. This year, honorees were recognized for 40 years of service, 35 years, 30 years, 25 years, 20 years, 15 years and 10 years. Collectively, the 23 staffers have worked for 485 years at DCC.

Everyone recognized was given a certificate of appreciation. Those who worked at the school for 30 years were also given a watch. Those who reached 40-year benchmarks were given an engraved mantle clock as well.

According to Paul Higgins, director of human resources at DCC, the recognition ceremony was started by the school's current president, Dr. David Conklin, in the early-1990s.

"We do have individuals who have been here a long time," Higgins said. "It's to thank them for their dedicated service to the college. It's well-deserved."

Both Richard Reitano and Joan Mazza were recognized working at DCC for 40 years each.

Reitano is a professor and department head of history, government, and economics. He is from Poughkeepsie.

Mazza is a professor of allied health and biological science. She lives in Chappaqua.

Five of the 23 staff members recognized at the ceremony are from local towns.

Also honored at the ceremony were:

o Timothy Decker of Rhinebeck, director of programs and activities at DCC South, is celebrating 25 years with DCC. He received his B.A. from Marist College, and his M.S. from the State University of New York College at New Paltz.

o Patricia DeLessio of Hyde Park, professor in the department of English and humanities, is celebrating 25 years with DCC. She received her B.A. from St. Francis College and her M.S. from State University of New York College at New Paltz.

o Barbara Liesenbein of Hyde Park, director of the library, is celebrating 25 years at DCC. She received her B.S. from the State University of New York College at New Paltz, and her M.L.S. from University of Oklahoma.

o Russell Pirog of Hyde Park, assistant dean of community services and special programs, is celebrating 15 years with DCC. He received his B.A. from Rutgers University and his M.A. from Montclair State University.

o Kelly Conner of Stanfordville, assistant professor and program chair of the music certificate in the department of performing, visual arts and communications, is celebrating 10 years with Dutchess Community College. He received his B. Music degree from Eastman School of Music, and his M. Music from Manhattan School of Music.
