As more storms passed through the Hudson Valley last weekend, a house in the Village of Rhinebeck was struck by lightning. The residence, located at 50 Chestnut St., was hit by a lightning bolt early Monday morning.

According to Rhinebeck Fire Department public information officer Henry A. Campbell, fire fighters were dispatched at 2:42 a.m. and arrived at the house to see the lightning's effects. According to Campbell, fire was showing through a section of the front roof and third floor front area of the house. Damage from the fire was limited to the third floor of the structure, but the first and second floors sustained smoke and water damage.

First Assistant Chief Rick Dorrer was in command of the fire fighting efforts. The fire departments of Hillside, Rhinecliff and Red Hook assisted at the scene with the Milan Fire Department on stand-by. Staff members from the Dutchess County Sherrif's office and Central Hudson were also on the scene according to Campbell.
