Town Supervisor Lisette Hitsman started the department reports off with her supervisor's report, and announced that work has started on badly needed repairs on Brush Hill Road. The work will probably continue through October. "Don't count on Brush Hill Road being open during October," she said.
Hitsman announced a meeting open to the public hosted by the Department of Environmental Conservation on Nov. 14. The meeting will take place at LaGrange Town Hall, and give area residents a chance to inspect new flood maps. The DEC will be present to answer questions and hear comments.
The budget hearing for the Union Vale Fire Department will be held on Oct. 21, and the budget hearing for the town of Union Vale will be held on Nov. 6. "I do want to caution you about the budget by the town," said Hitsman. This year the supervisor will analyze trends in expenses and revenue instead of going over the budget line by line.
"It would be better than going through line by line and would be a lot more interesting," said Hitsman. She encouraged residents to pick up a copy of the preliminary budget from Union Vale Town Hall.
Town Clerk Mary Lou Deforest warned residents about a letter circulating, advertising a service for residents to obtain a copy of the deed to their property for $85. "People can get a copy of their deed at the town hall for $5," she said.
Parks and Recreation Director Rob Mattes reported on Tymor Park, announcing a fence now on the Bruzgul Road side of the park. Residents are cautioned not to enter via the lawn on this side due to the new fence.
Mattes reported that the weekly fitness boot camp had begun as well as a yoga program. Both still have openings. Yoga takes place at the Senior Center from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., $10 for one session or $50 for six weeks.
The silo at the park has now been cleaned out, and the doors were wired shut to prevent birds from nesting in it again. "The doors shouldn't be opening for a number of years," said Mattes.
The After School Program at Tymor Park still has openings. "People seem to be really excited about it," said Mattes.
Residents who want to keep up on recreation in Union Vale can join a new mailing list for regular updates. Mattes instructed residents to send an e-mail to parkandrecnews@unionvaleny.us and write "subscribe" as a subject.
The board also approved Cunningham Lane, Dolly Lane, Breezy Hill Road and Ridgecrest Drive as town roads during the meeting, and approved use of the Tymor Park facilities for the annual Dutchess County Youth Council retreat. "It helps the kids and it's on a Sunday where there's not much going on," said Councilman John Welsh.
Also approved were the purchase of new microphones for the board, town clerk, and public comment. "We've had frequent discussions with people where they say they can't hear what we're saying," said Hitsman. The board agreed on wireless microphones that clip to clothing, and a standard wireless mic for public comment.
The next Union Vale Town Board meeting will be on Nov. 6 at town hall. The board will discuss the budget, and residents are strongly encouraged to attend.
