Humor on the other hand, wasn't postponed.
"Mr. (Richard) Azoff (principal of Seymour Smith) and I actually were going to sing and play your musical introduction, but the snow delays cut in to our practice, too. So, I'll spare you my singing," Cold Spring Elementary School Principal James Glynn said to the audience during the introduction. The crowd laughed.
The Cold Spring chorus and Seymour Smith chrous each performed several holiday favorites, while the fifth-grade All-District Band did as well.
The All-District Chorus united to sing composer Bill Staines' "A Place in the Choir."
Several family members spoke following the show, beaming with pride in their faces.
Maggie and Brian Croghan, parents of 9-year-old Riley, were just two of many parents with smiles.
"She plays flute, and is in the fourth grade," Maggie said.
Riley's favorite song to perform was "A Place in the Choir," which she referred to as "All God's Critters," a line found within the song's refrain.
Maggie and Brian said their daughter had started practicing with the band in September. From speaking with some faculty, pleasure showed from their facial expressions and comments.
"They did a great job," said Connie Kessel, fifth-grade All-District band director. She went on to say the band has been practicing once a week before school at Seymour Smith Elementary School. It was their second year playing together.
"This is the first time the kids got to perform on a high school stage," Kessel said enthusiastically.
In one musical number, students lined up blowing kazoos, wearing Santa hats.
Kessel said during the show, "obviously we're playing a concert that was supposed to come before the holidays ... but this is a great way to extend the holidays." And she was right on.
If nothing else, the comfort level among performers was evident.
Nine-year-old Lauren Autenriet shook her head "no" when asked if she was nervous.
"Mrs. (Wanda) Nowell showed us what to do," she said.
Nowell said she was pleased with the students' performance and noted practices have been going on since September, the beginning of the school year, for each performer.
Autenriet, a member of the Seymour Smith Elementary School chorus, said her favorite song to sing was "Naughty or Nice," composed by Brownsey & Lantz. Lyrics within the song remind everyone, especially children, to "be good."
Ten-year-old Abbey Quaid, a fourth-grader at Seymour Smith Elementary School, sang with her school's chorus and has been taking voice lessons outside of school.
Not a stranger to the stage, her parents said she has starred in "Beauty and the Beast" as Chip and sang in "Divas."
